Hello! I’m Janice, the artisan behind JgS Heirloom Carvings, and I’m proud to call Spring Branch, Texas, my home. I live here with my husband, our dogs, cats, and the many birds and deer that thrive in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. After spending 20+ years in bustling Houston, moving to this serene area was a breath of fresh air, allowing me to finally embrace my passion for woodcarving. This transition led me to retire from my previous jobs and dive into hobbies I had always found fascinating, particularly woodcarving.

As a member of the Texas Woodcarvers Guild and the Alamo Area Woodcarvers Club, I’ve had the privilege of learning from incredibly talented artists. I find great joy in sharing this craft with others, teaching cane carving to both beginners and intermediate students through courses that can accommodate 1 to 6 participants. My dedication to woodcarving is reflected in my projects, which I carefully design and complete, usually taking around 6 to 8 weeks. I take on 4 to 5 custom commissions each year to ensure each piece is crafted with the attention it deserves. My unique custom "story stick" commissions generally require 3 months to complete and deliver. Additionally, I create intricate gourd crafts and enjoy pine needle basketry, exploring the natural beauty of these materials while connecting them to my woodcarving work. My goal is to create meaningful, heirloom-quality pieces that resonate with my clients, blending art and functionality in every creation.
